Kia ora e te whānau,

Lads Without Labels is putting down roots in Dunedin. From 2027, Lads Otago will run as a student club in Ōtepoti, and applications are now open for the founding team. It's open to everyone, whoever you are and whatever you study.

A massive thank you

Before anything else, a massive thank you to the Heavy Breathers. Since 2023, groups of Otago mates have laced up for the Dunedin Marathon to get people talking about men's mental health, and for the last two years they've run it for Lads. Their mahi has backed our kaupapa more than we can say, and on 9 October they stood alongside us and OUSA for the first Run72 Otago. We owe those boys a lot.

What Lads is about

Lads Without Labels started at the University of Canterbury in 2019. We exist to help all lads see their strength. We do it by creating spaces where lads feel safe to speak, without making anyone sit through a lecture about their feelings. We just show up, and we back each other.

We're for all lads, and for everyone who backs them.

Who we're looking for

We're after a small, active team who want to help shape what Lads looks like in Dunedin. Any gender, any degree, first year or final year. You don't need to have done anything like this before.

We're not recruiting for set roles. On the form you'll tell us which areas you care about, like events, content, design, Flat Chats, partnerships or the money side, and pick the one you're most keen on. We'll work out who does what together in interviews.

Our commitment to you

  • Training that's actually useful. We'll set you up for the mahi you take on, with the Lads Canterbury team behind you.
  • People on the same mission. You'll work with a team in Dunedin, and with the crew in Christchurch, who care about the same things you do.
  • Partnerships. Real chances to build connections with groups across the Dunedin community.
  • The ability to make change. A genuine opportunity to influence and shape how we think and talk about mental health and masculinity.
